Animals have been our faithful companions since the very early days of human kind, and over the years, animals began to lose their function in helping us in our work and chores. Increasingly, they became domesticated, tamed and we almost turned them into members of our families. Dogs, cats, birds, small mammals, reptiles, etc. are all found in our homes, and they provide us with joy, love, and affection that is often more genuine than what we receive from our fellow humans. Our pets are helpful in many ways, and we benefit from their presence on so many levels. One of these areas where pets can be a very helpful addition is the field of recreation and exercise, and we can all turn our pets into amazing recreational partners only if we have enough mental strength and motivation.

First-Pets-KidsExercise is a very important part of our lives, and modern lifestyle often leaves us sitting at work during the whole day and then laying on our living-room sofa in the evening, gaining weight and putting our health in danger. According to a nationwide survey from 2012, two out of three adults in America are overweight, and over half of domestic dogs and cats are also too heavy. This means that obesity is a real epidemic and that we must do everything we can in order to stop it from destroying our lives and our health. Many heath conditions are directly connected with obesity, and being overweight may result in diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, heart disease, and so on.

They reduce stress, soothe anxiety issues and decrease the feelings of loneliness and depression. However, they can be very helpful when you want to exercise, since almost every healthy animal loves to be active and to play with its owner. For example, dogs are the perfect walking companions and burn approximately the same amount of energy in a 30-minute walk around the park as their owners do. This means that dogs will also benefit from the exercise, and they will certainly have fewer behavior problems if their needs for a daily amount of physical activity are met.

Horse-back riding, swimming with dolphins, taking your cat for a ride in your bicycle basket, and many other possibilities are available to people who love animals and enjoy spending time with them. With a little bit of creativity and imagination – many exciting and engaging exercises can become a habit, and this will quickly lead to a fit body and healthy organs. We all know that our health is a priority, and if our pets can help us protect it – then we have a win/win situation on our hands.
